Lava Cakes

Through all the things I've learned recently, one of them is that loss can never be understood. It can be accepted and one can sympathize with another but it can never be understood. That tearing of our innermost being is not something that can ever be fully grasped or comprehended. It isn't a scientific theory that can be understood or a piece of music that can be mastered. It comes at you different every time and every time you are brought to your knees. But in the same way that the pain comes, comfort comes.

Two lava cakes never brought such joy to me.

Two bags of chocolates with a returned textbook never made me wish that I was at home more.

Because in great sorrow, there is the greatest comfort and seeing their faces and hearing their voices; Voices and faces that have a softness and comfort in them, a caring that words cannot express brings warmth to my being.

Warmth that reminds me that God is up to something.

Even in this.

Because this is joy.
