Satan wants us to celebrate our sinfulness. To embrace it, the life that feels good and is good at every moment.
But God's way is so cheeky, so clever, so brilliant. He calls us to celebrate and embrace our sinfulness (let me finish this heresy) in light of knowing that we are totally screwed and totally wicked. But in knowing our sinfulness, we can know he truly loves us, because he has given us a choice to choose. To choose to love him or to reject him or ignore him. Without sin, there would not be such love because we would just have to bend to the will of a creator and in sin, he had the chance to die for all of us.
The final thought i never want to lose and the reason for this post is this
God Rejoices when a sinner repents
When I repent, even if i know i will return to my sin the very next moment, he rejoices. I know this is not good theology, but in the movie Luther, Luther explains to the kids why the Father runs to embrace the prodigal son. He runs because he wants to grab him and never let him go again. And i think this captures a bit of what my thought was. God is waiting for us to repent and is fully forgiving. And this is important for guys like me who have grown up and church and usually have a 'churchy' image associated with us. But truth be told, I need Jesus as much as any other Joe. Maybe more! but I don't know if that is possible and we will leave that topic to the theologians :)
But that is my conclusion of that simple statement "God rejoices when a sinner repents"
My three thoughts that have followed me through the week and made their way into worship
I often find that the worship sets are mostly planned around myself (sorry for being selfish) and how I have met the Lord that week.
