I am not writing this to convince or affirm anyone. Neither am I writing to divide or seperate opinions. I merely want to write to log my conviction. Please do not change your mind because of what others think, think for yourself, listen to your heart for yourself and listen to God for yourself.
After much heated discussions and conversations I finally know why I will vote . Many people have asked me for my opinion on the church that we plan to look into purchasing. There are pros and cons to buying it such as increased space but the need for renovations and so on just as there are pros and cons to continuing to rent sutherland. It seems, however, that quite a few people are in agreement that purchasing the church is a good idea due to increased space and availability and numerous signs that they have encountered.
I think S hit the nail on the head when she said that those reasons aren't important. A/C is not important just as having a kitchen is not the key factor in this descision. There is more to this purchase than the comforts of the congregation. This truly is wisdom. We buy a church not to have more comforts and conveniences than the one we already have but for a much deeper meaning. What is that meaning?
What is buying this church on the deepest spiritual level?
The gift that university gave me is to never stop asking questions and to dig deeper for truth. So what is the deepest spiritual meaning of buying this church?
Is the church a building? Not quite, it is also a community of believers and those who aren't quite believers either
Is a church sacred? Not exactly either, it is only sacred because of the prescence of the Lord (which is everywhere), not because the city has ordained the land to be zoned for a religious institute
So what is the deepest spiritual meaning of this church? A church is more than a building to me (were we a church before this building and will we be a church afterwards?). A church is not the only place that is sacred (think moses)
So why do we need to buy a church on a spiritual level?
How would this building serve us spiritually in a way that the current one we are using doesn't? Do we need a church?
These are questions that I am praying and will keep in mind as the 12th approaches. I know that some worry that others do not take this matter completely seriously with the utmost spiritual discerment but Our God Reigns. I'm sure whatever the outcome is that we can get through it because he has prepared us to go through it. I hope i won't be too bogged down if things don't turn out the way i want them to (i know i will) because these things are all God's things not ours. His agenda not ours. I think i have a tendency to get carried away. maybe it is because i care so much (or too much) about this church haha.
Funny thing is i've been reading John 17 for the last 3 weeks because i haven't had time to log what i think (yikes ETS). read it for yourself. It confuses me but this is what sticks to my mind and won't stop repeating itself:
"May they be one just as we are one"
May that be so after the 12 just as it was before the 12
